We don’t see ourselves as underdogs. We are Manchester United
Ryan Giggs

Our win on Saturday was special because we went from 0-1 down to prove to ourselves all the things we are capable of. We know our position in the table is not what the club and the fans deserve, but we are working to improve it.

Tuesday is just a great day to consolidate that work although, as you know, I am cup-tied for the Champions League for the rest of the season. Bayern is a massive opponent, but United has never feared any rival. I will be supporting my team-mates from the stands once more. We are going to try to win the Champions League but Bayern is a superb squad. We must play a very good game in Old Trafford.

Van Persie slots home the resulting penalty kick to make it 1-0 on the night and 1-2 on aggregate.

Seriously though, a great night for the fans, who have been waiting to see that kind of performance and character all season. I’m not gonna lie and pretend it was flawless, because after we went three up it seemed we went back to the usual Moyes approach. Also let it be noted that we were playing against one of the weakest teams left in the competition tonight. where was that performance on Sunday?

What a wonderful goalkeeper David de Gea is…. his contribution was as big as, if not bigger, than RVP’s one.

Can Man United win the Champions League? Hmm… absolutely not, at least with this team!

Good grief Man United are an awful team to watch. no flair, imagination or magic. the polish was wearing off in the last couple of seasons under Fergie, but they were never this bad.

Has Fellaini always been this average? Or has his just been this way since he joined United? His control is terrible his passes never advances play and I don’t recall any goal threat from him, which was supposed to be something Moyes thought he could contribute. The red card was deserved and pretty much summed up his caliber.

Apart from that, United seem to be lacking any style in their play, I think every team carries a few middleweights but this current selection seems to be unusually mediocre for a top team.

Real Sociedad 0-0 Manchester United

No complaints tonight.

Finally felt I was watching the real Manchester United, everyone played well, Giggs rolling back the years, but I think it was more to do with Sociedad’s non existing midfield.

Rooney and Kagawa combined really well, on any other night we would’ve scored five past that team.

Moyes must build on this performance, and hope he recognizes what caused an obvious improvement in our team’s play. He must keep the core of our midfield from tonight’s game, and we’ll be on our way to the top.

It was free flowing football from us after a long time, going to sleep much better tonight.

Van Persie is in the form of his life and is unstoppable at the moment. His opportunistic punt to equalise was sublimely weighted and the result seemed inevitable after it had gone in. It has been many a year since United won their first four Champions League games and it sends a message to the continent. Detractors will say that had they been in a group with, for example, Ajax, Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund, they would not have fared so well. True, but you can only play the cards you’re dealt.
